Our founder, Michael Bastian, embarked on what was to be the
journey of a lifetime in 2005 when he was invited by the Chinese Softball
Association to coach the Chinese National Softball Team, after previously
having conducted softball clinics in China. During his time spent
living in China
and coaching the team, he developed an understanding of the lives of the
athletes and grew to know them personally. Consequently, a desire grew to
help the girls by finding opportunities to help them grow in their lives.
In 2007 Michael and founders of what is now The Chinese Softball Foundation provided assistance to Zhou Yin, a softball player from Beijing, China, by helping her attend a Junior College in California as a student-athlete. This opportunity was made possible through the help of several people within the community. She returned to China in 2008 to train for the upcoming Olympic Games as a member of the Chinese National Softball Team, and hoped to return to the United States someday to finish her college education as a student-athlete.
The Chinese Softball Foundation, Inc. was established the following year as a non-profit organization, creating a venue for Chinese softball players to reach for a new future and to enrich their lives. The Chinese Softball Foundation soon thereafter gained designation as a 501 (c)(3) organization in 2009.
Our goal is to provide the athletes with a foundation of enrichment, education and a sense of personal empowerment that will be used to achieve a lifetime of success. As part of our mission, we hope to encourage cultural understanding and education internationally. It is also our hope that the athletes receiving assistance from the Chinese Softball Foundation will give back to their community by giving their time and working within the organization by:
• mentoring younger athletes;
• assisting incoming student-athletes with cultural and
language transition;
• teaching at camps and clinics both in the US and in China;
• coaching in China
and the United States

The
Chinese Softball Foundation is a non-profit organization formed to aid in the
advancement of Chinese softball athletes; and also to encourage and promote the
development of fastpitch softball in China. Our mission is to advocate
and advance cultural understanding, education, careers and leadership
development through the game of softball.
• Facilitate the personal advancement of Chinese softball
players
• Work in partnership with the Chinese Softball Association (CSA)
to encourage and promote further development of fastpitch softball in China by
promoting awareness of the sport, encouraging development in schools, and
camps and clinics
Our
mission is to increase public awareness of the lives of the athletes, and to
enrich their lives by providing opportunities for personal growth and
advancement. We hope to do this by encouraging their pursuit of higher
education either in China or
in the United States.
We will provide assistance to these athletes by:
• Aid in finding scholarship opportunities as
student-athletes in the United States, or in finding ways to further their
education in China if so desired
• Travel related assistance will be provided for those
athletes coming to the United States
• Facilitating cultural related transitions
• Mentoring
At this moment, many of these athletes are wondering if a new opportunity will come to begin a new journey in life. It is our hope that you will feel the importance of helping these athletes, known collectively as "Chinese Softball Players", but with many individual names, hearts, wishes, hopes and dreams.
